The exhibition, Focus on Andrea Dezso: Small Works, is vibrant, loud, and full of life. Deszo's art work stands out as soon as you enter the room. Curated by Susan Hoeltzel, the director of the Lehman College Art Gallery, the show runs until January 5th.

Andrea Dezso is an assistant professor at Parsons, the New School for Design and she is passionate about art. Most of her work reflects her life experiences as a young child living in Romania and her transition to the bustling streets of New York City. She finds her inspirations from visual artists, folk artists, and some of the older forms of writing material. She wants her viewers to play around with the images and make them their own; using a bit of imagination or by tapping into their inner child.

Dezso's pieces are well crafted and she is not afraid to use colors such as warm yellows, bright reds, purple, light pink, white, gray, and black. She is also very careful when she creates these pieces. She observes everyday things and draws them with a delicate touch.

"[I] thought her artwork would be of interest to our audience," said Susan Hoeltzel, "She is a very inventive artist who is always drawing - even at the laundromat - and is combining unusual sources like comics with Eastern European folk art [or] the cutting-edge contemporary with the traditional."

Dezso's work received great reviews from Lehman students. Kassandra Tapia, a Lehman junior majoring in photography, said Dezso had "great depth perception and use of colors. The art is able to tell us a story." Miguel Teutsch, a Lehman senior majoring in Computer Science and Imaging said the piece "Tales of Serbia," was vibrant and bright. "I thought the exhibit was great!" said Veronica Collazo, a Lehman freshman.

Not only is Dezso's work on display at our art gallery, but as part of the MTA Arts for Transit program, a mosaic art piece by Deszo will be installed at the Bedford Park Boulevard number four train station. The mosaic is called "Community Garden." It includes colorful images such as raspberries, butterflies, and other little creatures. This gives Dezso an opportunity to showcase her work to Bronx residents and subway riders. You can expect to see the mosaic in mid-December.
