APRIL IS...
NATIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH
Did you know?
- -1 in 4 college women have been victims of rape or attempted rape
-90% of victims know their assailants
-85% or more of sexual assaults involve alcohol
-Binge drinkers are 3 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than non-drinkers
of alcohol.
Alcohol is the number one date rape drug! Other drugs (rohypnol, GHB, ketamine) also increase the risk of sexual assault when slipped into a drink.
These drugs are colorless, odorless, & tasteless. The effects happen within 15-30 minutes and can last for hours. Effects can include dizziness, feeling intoxicated, sleepiness, and amnesia-like symptoms.
Take precautions to protect yourself against these drugs:
- -Avoid drinking alcohol, if you choose to drink, do so in moderation (drinking under the
age of 21 is illegal).
-Only drink from un-opened containers or drinks you've seen poured
-Never leave your drink unattended
-Avoid group drinks (punch bowls)
