October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
WOMEN: Do you perform regular BSEs (Breast Self-Exams)?
BSEs are the primary prevention tool in fighting breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), breast cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in American women. 13.4 percent of women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time in their lives.
CHECK YOUR BREASTS
Check both breasts all over, including the armpits, with your fingers in a circular motion.
How does each feel and look?
Examine in a mirror.
Changes to look for include lumps, dimples, irregular growth, or nipple discharge.
Keep checking every month after your menstrual period!
MEN: TSEs (Testicular Self-Exams) are just as important for you to perform!
According to the NCI, about 8,000 men in the United States are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year. Testicular cancer occurs most often in men between the ages of 15 and 34, and is the most common form of cancer in men between the ages of 20 and 39.
CHECK YOUR TESTICLES !
Check both testicles by rolling each testicle between your thumb and fingers.
How does each feel and look?
Examine in a mirror.
Changes to look for include lumps/hard areas, swelling, or enlargement.
Keep checking every month around the same time!
Answer to last trivia question: A person can only live 5-7 days without water.
