Welcome back to a new year and a new semester! Special welcome to new students! My name is Vanessa Gonzalez, Assistant Director of Campus Life and I joined the staff in early November 2004. The Office of Campus Life is a place that many Lehman students value and cherish. College is more than just attending your classes and obtaining your degree. Getting involved is one of the most rewarding experiences you will have while attending Lehman. You are able to meet people, enhance your skills and create memorable experiences.
Currently the Office of Campus Life has over 30 registered student clubs that fall under one of the following categories: Academic, Cultural, Spiritual, Political/Social Change and Special Interest. If you are interested you can either join an existing club or organize a club that suits your particular interest. If you want to get involved in Student Government, C.A.S.A (Campus Association for Student Activities) and Student Conference are the organizations for you. C.A.S.A is the elected student government comprised of 11 students that oversees all campus
clubs. It provides the social and recreational programs as well as special events such as the Thanksgiving Dinner, Etiquette Banquet, Network for Success Dinner and Senior Ball. Student Conference on the other hand, is also an elected student government comprised of 30 students. These students serve as senators on the College Senate. They represent student opinions in the academic governance of the college. Both C.A.S.A and Student Conference hold open meetings. Make sure to stop by, meet your elected officers and share your ideas, comments and concerns. C.A.S.A and Student Conference will assist you in any way they can.
My office provides workshops, programs and events that appeal to our diverse student body. Our staff assists student leaders in scheduling events, marketing their clubs, handling club budgets and their overall leadership development. Our student leaders will tell you that our office is a place that can assist you in learning about yourself, how to successfully work with others, and how to put many of those concepts into practice while having fun. Some of the programs that we offer throughout the academic year include The Leadership Weekend in the fall, LEADS series (held once a month), Emerging Leaders' Conference (held in Jan.). We also sponsor students to represent Lehman College at various conferences in Albany, NY. Most importantly we collaborate with other offices such as the Counseling Center, Health Center, Career Services, as well as academic units to enhance your learning.
